The Guild Church of St Margaret Pattens
A Personal Message from Revd Hugh Thomas
I qualified as a barrister many years ago and have worked as in-house counsel and/or compliance director in a number of major investment banks in the City for almost 25 years, and have advised on financial services laws and regulations around the world. My first job in the City was with Kleinwort Benson in the building, now demolished, a few yards from St Margaret’s. When working at Kleinworts, I never thought of entering St Margaret's Church! However, the Almighty had other plans for me! I believe that it is vital that the Gospel message of hope, comfort and joy is made "real" for ALL people today, especially in the current economic turmoil. I pray that I can contribute to furthering the Gospel message at St Margaret’s using my understanding of the City and the financial world and my experience in business generally. I work at St Margaret’s on Thursdays and Fridays each week, and have another ‘compliance/legal’ role for the rest of the week. Do stop by anytime! My Licensing service was held on the evening of 16th April at 6.30 p.m.
I was glad that a large number of people associated with St Margaret Pattens were able to attend this special service, at which the Archdeacon of London also was present. Click here for invitation
St Margaret Pattens has, over the centuries, always provided great support to City workers and their families. Now, in 2009, I pray that we can build on the good work of the past and take St Margaret Pattens forward to minister to the City of today in new and exciting ways. With the worry and concerns of City people, as a result of the economic turmoil, now is an especially important time for St Margaret Pattens.
Come and join us as we worship and pray to God for the strength and foresight to take forward this important ministry.
Yours, in Christ, HUGH Revd Hugh Thomas Assistant Priest |
