Thursday 30 October 6.30 pm. The London of Dr.John Dee.

Author talk by Gwenllian Williams. Free admission

GJ Williams is the author of the Tudor Rose Murders Series. Her writing has been described as, ‘right up there with CJ Sansom’ and ‘skilfully woven into the fabric of real history’. Her reputation as a novelist who knows her stuff is growing fast as all three books in the series so far have reached the top ten of Amazon’s Medieval Historical Fiction Chart.

In this talk, GJ Williams will take us through the London and life of Dr. John Dee who is the detective in her novels, and a real life polymath of the Tudor era. As a mathematician, astrologer, theologian, physician, cartographer, and general polymath he rose to fame in the Court of Elizabeth and became her private philosopher. But his was not a quiet life – riddled with family shame, accusation of sorcery, academic jealousy and his own difficult personality, his path to fame soon turned to infamy.  But he also lived in an era of great change, plots and political manoeuvrings, and this talk will also take us through the Royal scandals which create the backdrop to the novels.

Expect a talk full of information, local facts, fun and a good measure of royal intrigue.

Books will be on sale at the end of the talk and GJ Williams will kindly donate her royalties to the Church.
